"Maximum number of attempts reached. Try again later." is the wording TikTok users see in the app after too many login tries in a short span: retyping a password, or resending a phone or email code again and again. TikTok uses the limit to protect the account and publishes no timer for it: as of October 2026, its help center has no article for this message and states no attempt count and no wait time for login or code limits. Stop trying, wait, then make one clean attempt.
Why does TikTok say "maximum number of attempts reached"?
TikTok shows the message after a burst of login activity on one account. TikTok does not document its triggers; the message tends to follow several wrong passwords or several code resends in a row, and general security practice adds extra checks when one device or IP logs in to many accounts.
Codes pile up quickly because of how TikTok handles new devices. Its Account safety page says: "Any time you log in to TikTok using an unrecognized device or a third-party application, you'll be asked to enter your password and a one-time verification code (sent via SMS or email)". Every logout and fresh login from an unfamiliar device starts another password-and-code round. TikTok's Reset password page describes a related unrecognized-device error as "a security feature that helps protect your account", and the attempt limit looks like the same kind of protection.
How long does the TikTok login limit last?
TikTok does not say. No help center page gives a duration for login or verification code limits. The closest statement is on Following too fast, where following accounts too quickly "could temporarily disable your account". That page gives no duration either.
The general pattern, described in the OWASP Authentication Cheat Sheet, is a lockout that "prevents any more login attempts for a period after a certain number of failed logins". Under that design, retrying inside the period cannot get you in. TikTok does not say how it counts retries, so the safe move is not to make any. Because TikTok gives no timer, err on the long side before you try again.
How do you get back into TikTok after too many attempts?
Recovery runs in a fixed order. Do each step once:
- Stop. Do not retype the password and do not tap resend. Close the app.
- Wait. Leave the account alone well past the point where you would normally retry.
- Make one clean attempt with the account's own login method: the phone number, email or username it is registered with, on the device you normally use. If you are not sure of the password, tap Forgot password? and reset it by phone or email instead of guessing. The Reset password page warns: "Once you update your password, you'll be logged out of your TikTok account on all other devices."
- If the code does not arrive, check the basics before you resend. For a phone code, TikTok's phone code page says to select the correct country code, then "please restart your device and request verification code again". For an email code, the email code page lists typos, the spam folder and a full inbox. The number must also be the one on this account, because "One phone number can only be associated with a single account." For other causes of missing codes, see not receiving verification codes.
- If you are still locked out, open a ticket. Troubleshooting on TikTok says: "Tap Need more help? at the bottom and follow the steps to submit a ticket." Attach a screenshot of the message. TikTok's Issues creating an account form asks for "A screenshot of the error message", so have one ready.
Does a different network or a VPN reset the attempt limit?
No published evidence says so. TikTok does not explain how its limit counts attempts and says nothing about IPs or networks. General security guidance points the other way. The OWASP Authentication Cheat Sheet advises: "The counter of failed logins should be associated with the account itself, rather than the source IP address." Under that design, a new connection reaches the same counter.
The OWASP Credential Stuffing Prevention Cheat Sheet also lists "An IP address that has tried to login to multiple accounts" as a trigger for extra checks. It names IPs "associated with anonymization services, such as proxy or VPN services" as another. Changing connections mid-lockout may add a signal rather than remove one. Waiting is the fix.
How do you run several TikTok accounts you own on one network?
Intended use
Running several TikTok accounts from one network is for legitimate work: a brand account alongside a personal one, client accounts an agency manages, separate accounts for different products or regions. It is not appropriate for fraud, credential abuse, engagement manipulation, or any activity that violates a target platform's Terms of Service.
TikTok permits several accounts. Its Integrity and Authenticity guidelines say "You can have multiple accounts ... but not to deceive others or break the rules", and also: "We strictly prohibit automation tools, scripts, or other tricks designed to bypass our systems." According to Creating an account, "You can add additional accounts to your device and switch between them on TikTok," and "Each phone number, email address, and social media account can only be linked to one TikTok account."
A setup that keeps each account's login history predictable has four parts:
- Switch, don't cycle. Repeated logouts and logins mean more password-and-code rounds. Use TikTok's own add-account and switch feature.
- Remember trusted devices. After you enter a code on a device you use every day, choose to remember it; TikTok says this is "to avoid being prompted again" on that device.
- Give each account a number it keeps. Login codes go to the account's registered phone or email, so that number has to still reach you weeks later.
- Give each account its own consistent connection. An IP that logs into many accounts draws extra checks, so one connection per account, used every time, is the steadier pattern.
None of this lifts a limit that is already active. It is for running accounts going forward.
VoidMob's TikTok numbers are non-VoIP carrier numbers, and the three options differ in how long the number stays yours:
| VoidMob option | How long the number stays yours | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| One-time OTP (US) | Active for 15 minutes | A single sign-up code, not later logins |
| Rental (US) | 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, optional auto-renewal | An account that needs codes over weeks |
| Dedicated monthly line (per country) | Stays the account's, month after month | An account you keep long term |
For the connection, a dedicated device from mobile proxies for TikTok is one real 4G/5G device per customer, and its IP holds until you rotate it from the dashboard, the API or the device's private rotation link. A proxy does not exempt an account from TikTok's checks, since OWASP names proxy IPs as a trigger. What it gives is the same connection every session. How many accounts per proxy covers how to size accounts against devices.
Before each login, check that the account's connection shows the exit you expect:

The Platform Detection Simulator shows what else TikTok can read from the setup.
What to do when it says too many attempts try again later?
Stop retrying and stop resending codes, then wait. Make one clean attempt with the account's own login method, or tap 'Forgot password?' and reset by phone or email. If you are still locked out, tap 'Need more help?' in the app to submit a ticket and attach a screenshot of the message.
How long does the limit last?
TikTok does not publish a duration. As of October 2026 no TikTok help page gives a wait time or an attempt count for login or code limits, so a specific number quoted elsewhere is not from TikTok. Wait on the long side, then try once.
Why have I been kicked out of my TikTok account?
A password change logs the account out on all other devices, so a reset by you or someone else signs every other session out. If you did not change it, use 'Forgot password?' with the account's phone or email, then submit a ticket through 'Need more help?'. If TikTok restricted the account, submit a ticket through 'Need more help?' the same way.
How do I contact TikTok directly?
Through the app. TikTok's troubleshooting page says to tap 'Need more help?' at the bottom and follow the steps to submit a ticket. Include a screenshot of the error message.
Will a VPN or another network remove the limit?
TikTok publishes nothing that says so. OWASP guidance ties the failed-login counter to the account, not the IP, and lists VPN and proxy IPs as triggers for extra checks. Waiting is the reliable fix.
Keep each TikTok account on a number it owns
Non-VoIP carrier numbers as multi-day rentals or a dedicated monthly line, and dedicated 4G/5G devices that hold their IP until you rotate.
