TikTok No Internet Connection: Fixes That Work

TikTok says no internet connection but other apps load? Follow TikTok's own fix steps, then check your VPN or proxy and report it if the error stays.

When TikTok says there is no internet connection while other apps load, start with TikTok's own troubleshooting steps: restart the app and your phone, update TikTok and your OS, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and clear the app cache. If a VPN or proxy is running, turn it off and retry before you report the problem.

How do you fix TikTok saying there is no internet connection?

TikTok's support article, Troubleshooting on TikTok, opens with: "If you're experiencing problems with the TikTok app, try working through these troubleshooting steps." Work through them in this order. Retry TikTok after each one so you know which step fixed it.

1. Restart TikTok and your phone

TikTok's first instruction: "As a first step, we recommend restarting the TikTok app and your device." Close TikTok fully from the app switcher. A minimized app is not a restart. Then power the phone off and on.

2. Update TikTok and your phone's OS

"Make sure your device is running the latest versions of the TikTok app. We also recommend that your device's operating system is up to date." Check the App Store or Google Play for a TikTok update, then check your phone's system update screen. An outdated app build can fail to reach servers that have moved on to newer versions.

3. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data

"Weak data or Wi-Fi signals can also impact your experience on TikTok. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data to troubleshoot if connectivity is causing the issue". Turn Wi-Fi off and open TikTok on mobile data. Then do the reverse. The result tells you which connection is at fault (see the table below).

4. Clear TikTok's cache

In the TikTok app:

  1. Tap Profile.
  2. Tap the Menu button.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap Free up space.
  5. Tap Clear next to Cache, then tap Clear again to confirm.

Clearing the cache removes temporary files. Your account and posts stay as they are.

5. Turn off your VPN or proxy and retry

Disconnect any VPN app, disable any proxy app, and remove any manual proxy set on your Wi-Fi network. Then open TikTok again. The next section covers what the result means.

6. Report it to TikTok

If the problem persists, open the support article inside the TikTok app and tap Need more help? at the bottom to submit a ticket. On the web, click No under "Was this helpful?", then Need more help?.

Why does TikTok say no internet when other apps work?

Other apps working shows your connection reaches the internet for them. The failure most likely sits somewhere between TikTok and its servers: the app build, its cached data, the network you are on, or a tunnel in the path. Each test above isolates one of these. The table maps results to the likely fault.

What you seeWhere the fault likely isNext move

Fails everywhere, tunnel off, app updatedApp data on the device or a problem on TikTok's sideClear the cache, reinstall, wait, then report it

Two hidden settings catch people. On iPhone, a manual proxy lives under Settings > Wi-Fi > the (i) next to your network > Configure Proxy, and it stays on for that network after you forget about it. On Android, a custom Private DNS (Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS) is a device-wide setting, so a DNS server that stops answering can break one app's lookups while apps running on cached results seem fine. Set Configure Proxy to Off and Private DNS to Automatic, then retest.

Is a VPN or proxy causing the TikTok connection error?

If TikTok loads the moment you turn the tunnel off, look at the tunnel first. The usual suspects: the endpoint is dead or overloaded, DNS lookups go through the tunnel and fail there, or the exit IP sits in a range the app's servers refuse to answer. A datacenter VPN IP is often shared by many users at once, so its reputation can reflect everyone on it, not just you.

Check what your exit looks like with the tunnel on, then again with it off:

What does your IP reveal right now?

If you run a proxy for work, the Proxy Checker confirms the endpoint actually answers. Mobile Proxy Not Working? walks through endpoint, auth and DNS failures in depth. The fix for the error itself is to test your normal connection. Hunting for a tunnel the app will accept is not the fix.

Some creators and businesses run their own TikTok accounts through a proxy by design, for example an agency that runs client accounts over a stable, dedicated connection. For that work the IP type matters. A 4G/5G mobile IP looks like an ordinary phone on a carrier network. VoidMob: mobile proxies on real 4G/5G devices, non-VoIP SMS verification and eSIM. Every proxy exit is a real device on a consumer carrier connection, so its public IPv4 address sits behind the carrier's CGNAT and is shared with that carrier's ordinary subscribers. Mobile proxies for TikTok cover that setup. If you manage several accounts, how many TikTok accounts you can have explains TikTok's account limits. A proxy is not a cure for this error, though. If TikTok works with the tunnel off, the tunnel is the problem to fix.

What if TikTok loads but something else is wrong?

A different symptom needs a different fix. If you get past the connection error and hit a code-attempt limit, see TikTok Maximum Number of Attempts Reached. If the app works but your videos stop getting views, that is a reach problem: TikTok Shadowban in 2026 covers it.

Does a VPN or proxy cause TikTok's no internet connection message?

Test it directly: turn the VPN or proxy off and open TikTok. If the app loads, the problem is in the tunnel (a dead endpoint, DNS through the tunnel, or an exit IP range the app's servers won't answer). If it still fails with the tunnel off, look at the app, the cache or your network instead.

Why is my TikTok acting like I have no Wi-Fi?

The Wi-Fi network may block or misroute TikTok's traffic while other apps get through. Switch to mobile data. If TikTok works there, restart the router, check for a manual proxy on that Wi-Fi network, and set any custom Private DNS back to automatic.

How do I reset my TikTok app?

Restart TikTok and your phone, then clear the cache: Profile, Menu, Settings and privacy, Free up space, then Clear next to Cache and Clear again to confirm. If that fails, delete and reinstall the app from the App Store or Google Play and log back in.

Is TikTok down, or is it my connection?

Open TikTok on a second network and, if you can, a second device, with any VPN or proxy off and the app updated. If it fails everywhere while other apps work, the problem is likely on TikTok's side. Wait, retry later, and report it if it persists.

How do I report the problem to TikTok?

In the app, open the troubleshooting support article and tap Need more help? at the bottom to submit a ticket. On the web, click No under Was this helpful?, then Need more help?. Note which steps you already tried and whether a VPN or proxy was on.
