What to expect in Bhutan
Bhutan has two operators, B-Mobile from Bhutan Telecom and TashiCell, the second licence, running since April 2008. This eSIM uses TashiCell, which had 4G in all 20 dzongkhag headquarters by December 2018 and launched Bhutan's first 5G in Thimphu, Paro and Phuentsholing in December 2021. The Bhutan plans themselves are 4G/LTE.
Flights arrive at Paro or Gelephu, and every visitor travels with a guide. For paying in shops, the official tourism site points visitors to the goBoB and MyPay wallets, which link to international cards.
