What to expect in Hong Kong
Hong Kong packs five mobile networks into a city where subscriptions run at 435.8 percent of the population, per OFCA. Depending on the plan, this eSIM connects to CSL or to China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK), the largest operator, and the plans are sold as 5G. CMHK switched off 3G in June 2025.
The Hong Kong plans exit locally, so websites see a Hong Kong IP; the Asia Pacific bundle adds UK, Macao and Singapore exits. Add Octopus to Apple Pay before boarding the Airport Express, and it covers MTR fares, buses and convenience stores.
Coverage ends at the border. Shenzhen, or Macau across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, needs a plan for that side, or an Asia Pacific bundle plan whose coverage lists all three.
