What to expect in South Africa
Vodacom is South Africa's largest mobile network, ahead of MTN, Cell C and Telkom, and it carries this eSIM. It launched the country's first commercial 5G in May 2020, and by March 2026 its 5G reached more than 60% of the population from over 4,000 sites. Every South Africa plan here is sold as 5G.
Switch the line on after landing at OR Tambo, Cape Town International or King Shaka. Vodacom says its 2026 build targets remote and underserved areas, which tells you where 5G is still thin: expect 4G on long drives between cities.
