Reddit weighs whether the connecting IP belongs to a datacenter range, a known VPN provider, or a carrier mobile network. Datacenter and VPN ASNs draw extra scrutiny on signup and posting.

Reddit associates accounts that post from the same address. If the IP has a history of spam, vote manipulation or suspended accounts, new sessions inherit that reputation.

- One primary account per dedicated exit is the safest baseline. A small number of accounts can share one dedicated device if each keeps its own browser profile, but the IP association is permanent once made.

Why mobile IPs work on Reddit
Reddit does not publish a proxy blocklist, but it behaves like every large platform that fights spam at scale: the IP is one input among many, and its weight rises sharply for new accounts and for anything that posts links. A datacenter exit will often let you browse and then fail the moment you register or submit. A carrier mobile IP sits behind CGNAT, which means thousands of ordinary phone users share the same address, so the address alone tells Reddit very little. That is the whole advantage: it moves the decision back to your account behaviour, where a legitimate account holds up.
The practical split is between logged-in work and read-only collection. Logged-in sessions want one stable exit that does not move, because Reddit ties the session to the address it was created on and a mid-session change forces reauthentication. Read-only collection wants the opposite: spread requests across exits and pace them, because rate limits apply per IP as well as per token.
