What to expect in Indonesia

Indonesia is down to three mobile groups. Indosat and Hutchison 3 combined in January 2022, and XL Axiata and Smartfren became XLSmart in April 2025, leaving both beside Telkomsel, the largest. Our Indonesian pool is split almost evenly between Indosat and Telkomsel, with XL and Smartfren behind. It spans Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, and Medan.

All three groups won 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum in July 2026, with an obligation to bring 5G to at least half the population within five years. 3G is gone, switched off between 2022 and 2023, so traffic runs on 4G today, with 5G growing.

Shopee is the most visited marketplace, ahead of Tokopedia, 75% owned by TikTok since December 2023 and now home to TikTok Shop. Bukalapak stopped selling physical goods in March 2025. Services that skip Indonesia's PSE registration can be blocked, as PayPal and Steam were in July 2022.

Are Indonesian mobile proxies 5G?
Some are. Indonesian 5G is still early: Telkomsel launched it in 2021, and the July 2026 spectrum awards come with an obligation to cover half the population within five years. Most exits today are 4G, and a device moves to 5G where its carrier has coverage.
Which carrier should I choose in Indonesia?
Indosat or Telkomsel, which together carry most of our pool; Telkomsel is also the country's largest operator. XL and Smartfren lines, now both part of XLSmart, add variety when accounts should sit on different networks.
Can I target Jakarta or other cities?
Yes. West Jakarta is the deepest city, followed by Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, Medan, and Semarang, across Jakarta, West Java, and East Java. Smaller cities have fewer devices, so check the live list first.
